Power, Purpose & PerspectiveFRANK ANTHONE WHITE, the facilitator of back home hours at The Church of God in Christ Little Zion in the mid-80's, was always personally sensitive to the need for creative outreach to young people, musicians, “Preachers’ Kids”, aspiring gospel song artists and those whose talents kept their lives rooted in the Church. The lasting tone of his Thanksgiving musicals, conventions and symposia was always shaped by a clear pull to hear the yet more joyful sound of the Gospel message. This approach – his evangelical dialogue – styled White as a highly attractive preaching personality throughout the Greater New York Metropolitan area. Then, in 1993, the conventions, the concerts and the back-home hours took a corporate turn and faced-off with the multitudes. They (“the multitudes”) were in need of a combined experience that brought about total transformation “without controversy”. The resources were in Frank Anthone White’s hands: singers, students, souls and staff. The outgrowth was the formation of FAW Ministries - an organization founded upon the design of bringing the Gospel into easy access to a generation of post-Baby boomers whose unanswered questions concerning faith were locked-up in the Word of God. Frank Anthone White’s strategy for getting to the bottom of this problem was mapped-out with near precision: The FAW Song Ministry would break the ice. Its prayer commitment would crack-open disgruntled hearts. The celebration of his anointed Gospel Preaching would come forth and water the soil. Then, with the administrative follow-up of a trained team of professionals from all walks of life and denominational backgrounds, testimonies of Godly increase began to emerge with conviction and purpose. Pastors with hearts for their communities reached out to FAW Ministries to help build an evangelical climate in their neighborhoods. The results were significant enough to necessitate incorporating this function even further. Before the end of 1994, FAW Ministries had expanded into a fully-operational entity admired for the art of blending concert music, intercession, altar training and active crusade evangelism into a winning formula, irresistible to the hungry soul. It was now officially FAW Evangelistic Crusade Ministries (yet commonly known as “FAW”). Inter-faith billboards, radio hosts and the gospel press were covering the path of this sophisticated operation that was steam-rolling across the State and accomplishing the full expression of its primary goals: • Crusade Evangelism • Soul-Winning • Church Growth This covenant-building corporation and its year-round crusades reflected the passion that was inflamed upon White when he first accepted the Gospel call more than 15 years earlier. All along the northeastern corridor – from the south shore of Long Island to the Chesapeake suburbs –crowds awaited the arrival of this unique team that brought a sound imposed upon a theme of one of Frank White’s title cuts. The melody line of these cuts became the lasting aroma countless souls would remember over and over whenever they would crowd themselves into a tent or reminisce back to the FAW Crusade Meeting where they first heard the Gospel, received Christ and accepted His salvation. From the outset, “He Won’t Ever Fail” White’s signature composition paired compatibly with his crisp, vivid, compelling and rightly-divided exercise of the Preached Word, never failing to set the stage for a flood of broken souls at the altar. Similarly, “In the Meantime” became one other such powerful pair of both song and sermon during the late 90's as White moved the Crusade Ministry into the Year 2000 and adopted the technology to keep it moving. Unaffected by its commitment to advance with the times, the central nerve of FAW Ministries has always, appropriately, been prayer. “The higher you go, the further you can see” remarked the late Elizabeth Calhoun, one of FAW’s associate administrators during one of its eight-week summer prayer clinics. By the arrival of the millennium, a typical crusade would open with intercessory prayer, move into song worship and advance higher under the sound of the FAW Celebration Choir whose voices are captured on FAW’s musical counterpart recording label, Music Quest, Inc. Over the years, FAW Ministries has broadened its opportunities to include educational initiatives by organizing leadership conferences, training lay workers and hosting specialized seminars which address relevant life goals such as financial planning, health & wellness and first-time home buying. To date, the primary goals of FAW Ministries have remained unchanged. Whether a psalmist, an audio engineer or a financial planner, life’s most worthy destination must be “heaven all the way.” For White, “no task is too unconventional if it means getting serious-minded worshippers to their destiny.” His vision – with all its innovations and spiritual achievements – has revamped the way contemporary crusade ministry is conceived and has literally hand-spun from the ground-up a lasting mentality whereby soul-winning is – at any cost – always the order of the day. |
